Watch the prezi and read the text 'The Company that ruled the waves'.  

Answer the following questions.

• The British were relatively late comers in the Empire making business. 
  Why can we talk about Empire making only from the early 1600s?

• What were the most significant events in the 18th century that laid the foundation of the British Empire?

•  Who were the rivals of the British?

• How  did the British manage to catch up?

Question for discussion:

• What was the role of the British East India Company in the beginning of the British Empire? Why was actually the British East India Company founded?

Activity:

Make a map about the first voyages of the British and the Dutch East India Company. Signify also the permanent trading posts.
