• The British had already had a long tradition of piracy when Henry Morgan began harassing the Spanish.

• Why did sugar plantation popped up all over the West Indies (The Caribbean) during the 17th and the 18th century?

• Why were black africans were captured and transported as slaves mainly to the sugar plantations?

Question for discussion:

• Arguably, the trade of sugar produced the most revenue for the British gevernment. That raises the moral question whether the demand for sugar caused persistance of slavery.

Activity:

• Search data about the sugar trade on the Internet and analyze how much it contributed to the British economy. Make a circle diagram to illustrate its importance.
